Good
morning!
I hope that
everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday celebration and that safety
and peace continue to be yours as we enjoy family and prepare to usher
in the New Year.
Today's quote is
a beautiful reminder about the key component to "excellence" whether
that excellence be found in our personal lives, social lives, spiritual
lives or professional lives. How many times have you felt, "something
missing" or that an activity once enjoyed doesn't bring the same joy at
another point in life? Often we make the mistake of thinking something
is wrong with us, or that we are in a funk/depression. Of course, this
type of thinking only saps more joy and energy from our days.
Or, if our lack
of joy is work-related, we might think if we could just "do" something
better, or learn more, or make more money, that empty void would be
filled.
"Being our best"
is the only way to fill that void. It is difficult to be our best
though when we feel that void. This quote from Michael Jordan provides
a key though often-overlooked component for filling the void within.
When we feel
that emptiness, it isn't a matter of doing more or doing less, it isn't
a matter of trying harder. That void is always a sign that reflection
is needed because our heart is not fully present in the endeavor we are
pursuing. Only when our heart is as present as our mind will we feel
"great" instead of "good."
Your Turn:
You can test this theory by looking back at some of your happiest
moments in 2010 or times when you felt everything was "clicking." Think
about where your mind was and where your heart was--odds are they were
operating in tandem. When you feel an emptiness in any area of your
life, take a moment to "take stock" of what your heart is telling you.
It might be requesting a little adjustment in your routine, more
self-care, or leading you down a different path altogether.
Your
affirmation:
I listen to my heart.
