"Every time you wake up and ask yourself, "What good things am I going to do today?" remember that when the sun goes down at sunset, it will take a part of your life with it."
~Indian Proverb

Good morning!

Good morning reader Becky sent in this Indian proverb that reminds us that each day gives us an opportunity to influence the world -- and either leave a gift -- or not.

I frequently hear this statement "I just want today to be over!" Interestingly, each many say this before noon! After 4-6 waking hours, these people were done with the day - it was "kaput" they wanted the next one.

I started to think about athletes and the consequence of this  type of thinking if you were an athlete. Pretend you were running a 10 mile race. The first mile you were just "off your time." Can you imagine an athlete just walking away saying, "I'll just wait for the next race." Could you see an Olympian doing that? Of course not. Why? 1. They have worked too hard to get where they are. 2. They believe in themselves, and their ability to recover and do their best.

Like Olympians, we have all worked very hard to get where we  are in life--no matter where that place is. We have lived day after day after day--to get to here--today--this moment. If our lives are to have all the impact they can, we would do well to adapt more Olympian thinking. Let us not walk away from a day because of a bad start. Let us challenge ourselves to get back on track and do our best.

Your Turn: Eliminate this phrase from your vocabulary... "I can't wait for today to be over." Instead ask yourself, "What can I still do to make today count?" Become a gold-medalist in life by embracing and maximizing each day.

Your affirmation:  Regardless of what happens, I continue to maximize and give each day my all.

And as always, don't forget to start your day with a heartfelt: "Something great is going to happen today... I can't wait to see what it is!"
And when ending your day ask yourself: "What is one more thing I can do to make today matter?
