Simplify Your Life in 30 Days - Starts January 1, 2007

"Never let yesterday use up too much of today."

Good morning! This quote is a wonderful reminder to stay in "the present." It was interesting as I received this quote while I was having a similar thought trail. I was thinking about how much emotional-energy we use thinking about both past and future and how that often becomes so consuming that we miss all the happiness that exists today.

Learning to break the cycle of anxiousness and worry isn't simple. It takes time, practice and persistence. Worries about finances follow many of us throughout the day. We feel guilt over "not getting everything done." Household commitments sometimes seem endless. We worry about our children; we worry about our loved ones. And that worry and pre-occupation ends up robbing the joy from the magic of today.

There is nothing more freeing than finally "letting go." You'll recognize the feeling because the little things you have been missing will begin to shine and glisten like never before. So how do we learn to do that? How do we practice letting go? As always when we seek change in the CYLC program, we develop a "ritual" to practice until we form a new habit.

To practice letting go, make a list each morning next to your "Power To-Do's." Make a list of 3 things you need to "let go of." These should include things which you cannot control and your endless-thinking will not advance them any. Each time your mind drifts to one of these 3 items, remind yourself to "let go." I like to say in my mind, "Let go and let God." It helps me to feel I am not giving up, but giving my items over to something with much more power than I will ever have.

Continue to practice this daily until the "letting go" becomes automatic. No doubt at times you will stumble and struggle. In those times, come back to this written practice.

Your Turn:
Complete the "letting go" exercise detailed in today's Good Morning.

Your Affirmation:
I let go of that past and present so I may experience happiness now
